Why I was a JCSC Fellow:

I had planned for years to take a year off between college and medical school, and world events made me think twice about spending the year abroad.  A few different people talked to me about the fellowship, and I decided it wouldn't hurt to apply.  I love Hillel, I love the opportunities that it provided me while at Brandeis, and I love the concept of a Jewish Renaissance through bringing Jewish students together to do Jewish things.  My own "Jewish Journey" has been a long and winding one (e-mail me if you want to know more), and I thought that I would be very good at helping other students to realize their own place within the Jewish world and to feel comfortable with their Jewish identities.  I hope that I was in some way able to accomplish that goal!!

My Background:

I was born on January 1st -- so that makes me "New Year's Eve"!! Okay, it's a bad joke, but I get to tell it anyway. :-D

I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama -- and I don't want to hear that y'all have been making fun of my Southern roots!  I went to Brandeis University (GO DEIS!!), where I double majored in Biology and English & American Literature.  On top of all that, I was involved in Brandeis Hillel for all 4 years, including serving as Education & Culture Coordinator my sophomore year and then Hillel President my senior year.  http://www.brandeis.edu

Stuff About Me:

My co-workers at OSU Hillel like to make fun of the amount of TV that I watch.  I admit, I do watch a lot of TV -- and having a nice screen and a ReplayTV makes it that much more enjoyable!!  But as I reminded them pretty often, I don't usually just "surf," I have those shows that I HAVE to watch and that's it.  It's an efficient way to watch!! A few of those shows are "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "West Wing," "ER," "24," and "Friends."  And yes, I really loved this season of "American Idol" -- how could I not, when 205 is my home area code? Yay Ruben!

What my co-workers often seemed to forget is that I probably read more than twice as many books as any of them just during this year.  I love to read -- and to share my favorite books with others.  If you want the names of some good books, let me know -- and I would love to get some good suggestions as well! I like anything from "beach books" to mystery to historical fiction -- pretty much anything goes.

My Future:

I will be starting medical school in August -- four long years of school await.  But I've always known that I would be a doctor, a pediatrician more specifically, so this next step is no surprise.  I will be attending Tulane down in New Orleans, or N'awlins if you prefer, so come visit me!  I'll even take you out for some Kosher Cajun.

Just Call Me Dr. Eve!

I'm glad I took the time off in between so many years of school....but I'm not sure it'll be an easy adjustment to go back to the books.  It was nice to come home at night (the few nights I didn't work) and have nothing to do until I had to be at work the next morning!! Oh well, guess I'll adjust somehow!

Guess I Should Get Used to Using This

When people ask me what my favorite part about this year was, I immediately respond "the people."  I'm talking about both students, staff, and fellow fellows!!  I think that each JCSC fellow around the world did an amazing job, and I'm so glad that I made so many new friends.  And if I'm talking about YOU -- you better keep in touch!!
